Gas Tank 15 Gallon by PETRO WORKS
Petro Works ProductsThis tank is a direct replacement for non fuel injected Samurais and for off-road use only.
**For Samurais running a Fuel Injected motor set-up: See our 15 Gallon Tank with an Internal Pump
Our New GEN 3 improved tank now uses a commercially available fuel pump assembly hanger and pump. The Non-Fuel pump tanks have the same assembly but can easily be converted into an in tank pump setup without having to buy a new tank.
Our 15 Gallon tank gives you 50% more fuel capacity. This tank is made from XLPE polyethylene and will never rust or rot out. The 3/16 thick steel skid plate is Zinc plated and affords far better protection than the stock plate. Each tank includes a new sending unit and everything you will need for the installation. If the fuel tank is too close to the tailpipe, you'll need to have the vehicle's tailpipe rerouted or repositioned.
When swapping in this tank it is a good opportunity to replace the Fuel Filler Hose. Save on shipping when you purchase both a gas tank and fuel filler hose together!
We also offer a 15 Gallon Fuel Tank featuring a low-pressure 5 PSI fuel pump. Contact us for more information or to place your order!

15 Gallon gas tank
PRO- This was a basic install and directions are good also looks great with the HD skid plate. CON- After my first full fill up to around 15 GAL + / - about 2 minutes into driving away from the pump the rig started to sputter in and out as I drove off, I was able to keep it going as I worked the pedal to gain enough speed to make it home 4 - 5 miles. I filled this up the neck to where I could see the fuel so i thought maybe I filled it up too much so I siphoned out about a gallon of gas and everything was just fine. Since then i have filled it up multiple times now and if I fill up anymore than 14 GAL + - it will run like crap until the fuel is down to that level, not sure what the cause is maybe a breather hose or something, I have checked all the connections as they are all as they should be, other than that good to go. One other thing to be aware of is the new tank is deeper top to bottom and maybe even a touch wider so if you are running stock suspension as far as height or lifted this won't be a problem, my rig has a mild 2-3'' + - susp lift (small steel block at the perch & longer jeep springs w/ 1-1/2''longer shackles) and I have my rear axle pushed back 2'' from center, what I was concerned of is when the rear end flexes up into the body it barely clears the diff by about an inch from hitting the gas tank skid plate, if by chance you have extended your rear end back more than 2'' from stock with not much lift you may have an issue of hitting the diff. If your suspension lift is more than 6'' or so I don't think it will be a problem, something to think about if you're wanting to get the larger tank, just thought I'd throw that out there.

Worth the effort to install
Well made tank. I have been lusting for one of these for years and finally bit the bullet. The cost is high and so is the shipping. Those are the only down sides. I installed this just before hunting season in September. Everything went in just as it should. One bit of advise, don't be a scrooge, buy the filler hose it will make the install go better!! I have custom 2" exhaust that is all mandrel bent and had to relocate the pipe to snake between the shock and the side of the new tank.

Well built and a great addition to your Samurai
I have probably owned my 15 gallon tank for 10 years or so... I bought it to replace my OEM that had started to rust internally. The skid plate is strong and has bounced off several rocks through the years. I had one issue once when I was at the coast and drove through a rather large tide pool. The pump shorted out because salt water had pooled on top of the tank. Once I figured out what happened and got the water off everything ran like it should and a couple waterproof connectors and some "paint on electrical tape" fixed it for good. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another but it's built so well I probably will never need to.

Great tank but expensive
Well built. fits like a gloves, good skid plate. It's a chunk of money but it is worth it.
